Compliance School Section 1

This year, the Utah Credit Union Association has made changes to compliance school to prevent classroom burnout and help attendees obtain their CUCE.

Traditionally, we have held 3-5 days worth of training, all right in a row. By about the middle of day 2, many attendees have glazed-over eyes and rely heavily on caffeine to stay awake.

So we’re changing the program in 2011.

Instead of consecutive days of training, we’re breaking the training into seven separate days of training, each in a different month of the year. After all, one day of training is much easier to endure than three in a row. Plus, with seven days of training—including a “bonus” day just on Reg Z—the material is more comprehensive.

Each day of training will focus on teaching material from one of CUNA’s RegTrac courses. This accomplishes two things.
  1. It provides days of training with specific, related topics so that students can choose to attend only those days that teach topics applying to them. Don’t want mortgage compliance? Don’t attend day 4. Don’t want to learn about a compliance program? Don’t attend day 6.
  2. It prepares students who are interested in doing so to take the RegTrac exams and obtain their Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE) designation. Anyone wishing to do this should order their exams from CUNA and have them sent to the Association for exam proctoring.

On February 15, the training will cover Deposit Operations Compliance including:

  • Truth in Savings
  • Regulations D/Reserve Requirements
  • Regulation E/Electronic Funds Transfer
  • Regulation CC/Funds Availability
  • Uniform Commercial Code Articles 3 and 4
  • Uniform Commercial Code Article 4A and Regulation J

And the best part for those who are already CUCE certified? The UCUA’s compliance school will count as continuing education for CUCE re-certification.
